OGT 2026 Opens in Ashgabat: New Energy Projects and International Partnerships

Opening Day at OGT 2026

The 31st International Conference and Exhibition Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan (OGT 2026) officially opened on October 21 in Ashgabat under the theme "Energy. Partnership. Progress."

Bringing together approximately 1,700 delegates representing 450 companies from 75 countries, the event provides an international platform for discussing energy development, infrastructure investment, technological innovation, and long-term industry cooperation.

The opening sessions highlighted Turkmenistan's strategic priorities in expanding natural gas production, diversifying export routes, modernizing infrastructure, and strengthening international partnerships.

Major Energy Projects and Infrastructure Development

One of the central topics of OGT 2026 was the continued development of the Galkynysh gas field, including its fourth development phase, which involves CNPC and is designed to add 10 billion cubic meters of annual gas production capacity.

Discussions also addressed the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) pipeline, with the Herat section reported to be approximately 80% complete.

Additional infrastructure plans included new gas compressor stations, modernization of existing facilities, and proposed underground gas storage capacity of up to 5 billion cubic meters annually.

These developments highlight potential opportunities for engineering companies, equipment suppliers, and technical service providers.

International Investment and Strategic Partnerships

International cooperation remained a major focus throughout the opening day.

Representatives of PETRONAS, CNPC, Dragon Oil, XRG, SOCAR, and other international energy organizations discussed ongoing investments, infrastructure development, and opportunities for future collaboration.

PETRONAS highlighted more than $12 billion invested in Turkmenistan over three decades, while other industry participants emphasized the importance of technology transfer, operational efficiency, and long-term partnerships.

Discussions also covered the diversification of energy export routes, including opportunities for expanded cooperation with regional and international markets.

Engineering Innovation and Sustainable Development

Alongside major energy projects, OGT 2026 emphasized the growing importance of digital technologies, automation, equipment reliability, and environmental performance.

Industry discussions highlighted opportunities in predictive maintenance, gas processing, infrastructure modernization, methane emissions reduction, and advanced engineering solutions.

These priorities reflect the evolving requirements of the energy industry, where technical expertise, operational efficiency, and sustainability increasingly influence project development and execution.

Looking Ahead

The opening day of OGT 2026 demonstrated the scale of ongoing energy development in Turkmenistan and the importance of international cooperation in supporting future projects.

For engineering and industrial companies such as William Johnson, these developments highlight the growing demand for reliable EPC solutions, equipment procurement, maintenance services, and specialized technical expertise.

As the conference continues, the discussions surrounding energy infrastructure, technology, and investment are expected to remain central to the industry's long-term development.
